South University's Savannah campus in Savannah, Georgia, is the flagship location and largest campus of South University, a for-profit educational institution for career preparation in the business, health sciences, legal studies, and information technology fields.
South University is ultimately owned by Education Management Corporation, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
South University's Savannah campus is home to the School of Business, School of Health Professions, and School of Pharmacy and provides doctoral degree, master's degree, bachelor's degree, and associate's degree programs.
§History
South University traces its history back to 1899, when John Draughon established Draughon's Practical Business College in Savannah, Georgia.
In 1974, the family of John T. South III, currently the chancellor of South University, acquired the institution and changed its name to Draughon's Junior College. In 1986, the school became South College, and in 2001 the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accredited South College at the master's level and the school became South University.
§Licensing, accreditation and memberships
South University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award doctoral, master's, bachelor's, and associate degrees.
The Savannah campus is approved for training veterans and other individuals by the State of Georgia Department of Veterans Services, State Approving Agency, Atlanta, Georgia.
